Well, it was going to happen I suppose. But a foregone conclusion can still be disappointing, especially after a string of sporting events that anecdotally seemed to favour Kerry. After all the Red Sox came back from 0-3 against the Yankees in the ALCS to take the next eight straight and win the World Series. Five of six major football teams from the 2000 battleground state of Florida - the Dolphins, the Jaguars, Miami, Florida and Florida State - lost over the weekend (Tampa Bay had a bye week). The Redskins lost at home to Green Bay. And although the New England Patriots finally lost, they did so in Pittsburgh's Heinz Field. It seemed that the sporting Gods were backing the challenger. But they were always fighting an uphill battle at best. And the traditionally Republican Ohio spoilt the party. Ah well!
